Missing My Husband

As I sit here typing this blog post, bear in mind I'm watching 'P.S. I Love You' on Lifetime.  Seems like I've been watching lots of sappy love stories on television this week since my husband went to San Antonio for some Army training.  HA--and Army Wives just came on after PS I Love You... how convenient!  It seems like everything reminds me of my husband when he's gone.  I can't deny that I'm more than a little attached to this man who I can't imagine life without.  And I'm more than a little lost without him around.

With a baby on the way in less than one month now, I'm reminded of the wonderful man who helped bring this about.  But there are some fears... like how will having a baby affect your marriage?  It's a little scary to me to have another life come into our lives after four years of having each others' company solely.  Will I treat my baby as an imposter?  Or will I treat him as my new love and Matthew as old hat?  These are just honest questions I have, and I have to believe that other moms face them as well.  It's a huge life change!  It's a good reminder, though, of how sinful we are as humans and how in desperate need we are of a Savior and God's Word to guide our every thought and action.  Though these thoughts can enter in and cause fretfulness if dwelled upon, I know I have a Savior who has already conquered death and provided a way for me to have life with Him eternally.  So... "whom shall I fear?"(Ps. 27:1)

In light of these things, I have been clinging to this particular verse given to me by Steph.
"Only fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart.  For consider what great things He has done for you." ~1 Samuel 12:24

With hints of warmer weather here and there, Matthew and I have been able to get out more and enjoy being together in beautiful Colorado.  I want to share some pics from our recent "date" days :).  Though it's a little scary to anticipate this little life that's about to burst into ours, it's also the most amazing experience to share with Matthew because we're in it together, and this little life is a part of each of us.  It's amazing that the Lord allows us to be a part of His miracle-making process.

I'm a little ridiculous-looking at this point.  Five more weeks to go in this pic.

Handsome.

Love my rugged man.

William should be well-adept to experiencing life at high altitudes by his arrival.

Found a cave-like spot

We thought we would be able to do some fishing, but we were mistaken!  This is not the first time this has happened to us here in CO.

It was "a little steep." (Matthew's words) :)

Had to end our journey at the frozen waterfall.  Shoes weren't quite equipped to continue, and neither was this pregnant lady.

Hilarious

View from the end of our journey!  We hiked back down a ways and had a slightly chilly picnic with southwestern tabbouleh salad, chips and yogurt.  It was great to spend some time in the beautiful outdoors with my adventure man.

Looking forward to Matthew's return from Texas this Thursday!  :)  Can you tell??

Baby Shower in Memphis

I've got a lot of catching up to do on my blog, as I recently was blessed with THREE amazing baby showers in a span of two weeks.  Since then (and having 29 days until due date), I've been in major baby mode.  Days have consisted of writing thank yous, laundering baby clothes, sorting, purchasing the last needed items, packing for hospital, sanitizing bottle parts, preparing the nursery, etc!  But my goal is to catch up on blogging so that I can always remember how special the past month has been.

After a week in Memphis, Stephanie and the women of Grace church went in together to throw an amazing shower for baby Will and me.  My mom and stepfather were able to drive up for the shower, and Matthew was also able to fly in to see old friends and hang out with Charlie while women and estrogen levels took over his house.

Steph made this wreath for William that is now hanging above his crib!

I got to give my laundry list of prayer requests for each lady to take and lift up to Jesus.  What could be better than having others intercede to the Father on your behalf?
Prayer request bags and cute airplane decor

I have got to figure out my lens in low light!  Here's lovely April, her newest baby Blake, and the amazing hostess Stephanie.

Yum!

How cute!  The fabric bunting is now above Will's changing table :)

Cassie made these cupcakes, and they were yummy.

Steph found these in someone's dumpster and made the cute letters with her scrapbooking skillz.

Verse that so beautifully coincides with the airplane theme

These games make me dizzy, but Matthew and Charlie could play for hours!

It was so incredibly wonderful seeing these friends again after about 8 months of being gone

So thankful Beka drove in from Arkansas.  It was great seeing her!

More of my pretty friends who it was so incredible to see - Allie, Kelly, Brittany and Emily (who was so sweet to come even though the first trimester of pregnancy is keeping her pretty nauseated!)

Lindsey, Heidi and Brienne hanging on the couch.  Heidi is due a couple of weeks before me, and Brienne is getting married in April!

Heidi and me... pregnancies two weeks apart!  I'm fairly certain William is still bigger than Greta.  That's apparently how we grow 'em in my family!

My hubby and me who I love even though he decided to trim his own hair when I was away-lol.  He still steals my heart.

Glad my mama and Paul could come and meet everyone and everyone meet them.  This was such a special, special day.

A Week in Memphis

I was blessed recently to be able to stay in Memphis for an entire week with a baby shower for William at the end of my stay.  It had been way too long since I'd seen my bff Stephanie.  We had the best time being back together again.  We both laughed AND cried somehow at the same time when seeing each other.  Getting to see so many friends from church and teachers/students from the school where I previously taught was a huge blessing.  Matthew's parents generously provided him with a plane ticket so that he could come for President's Day weekend, and my parents were also able to drive up for the shower.  The week refreshed my soul and warmed my heart.

We love Paisley.  She got cold, so she's wearing Nola's sweater.  Charlie did not approve.

I got to babysit Nola while these two lovebirds went on a Valentine's Day dinner-and-a-movie date.  Aren't they adorable?  Once N was down, my friends Heidi and Kelly came over to hang out.  It was so much fun catching up.

We decided to do some faux-applique onto onesies for William after mornings spent in our pajamas having great conversations and devotionals over coffee.  I also got to check out Steph's bible study on marriage and meet some new friends.

Tie was Steph's idea and we loved it!  Picturing this as super cute along with some corduroys for our little man.

The finished onesies.  Ready for a night of seeing my friends from church by visiting a Grace Group!

I got to push Nola on the swing.  She's so cute and cuddly, and especially in this outfit!  This was after a day visiting my old school where I taught art and seeing former students and friends who I worked with.  Didn't snap a photo, but want to remember how sweet it was seeing everyone.

We decided to leave Nola with Charlie and go to Michael's and Muddy's cupcakes.  These are the best cupcakes I have ever had!  Best part was jamming to old school R&B in the CRV while eating cupcakes.  What could be a better combo?  It's times like these when I realize again that Steph and I are like the same person...

We took some posed shots of ourselves with Nola and William.  Steph took some amazing pregnancy photos of Will and me that I will cherish forever.

Girls' lunch at the BBQ shop on Madison

Matthew takes the red-eye into Memphis for President's Day weekend.  These are his favorite chips from Las Delicias as a welcome present.  He carefully toted these back to Colorado as his carry-on personal item.

After a red-eye, Charlie thought it'd be a good idea to drink Red Bulls with Matthew who hasn't had caffeine in a looong time.  It was a little anti-climactic and tasted like sweet tarts -gross.  But these faces say it all about these two.  Two peas in a pod.

Paisley went crazy when Matthew got there.  This is the first thing he usually does when seeing her... gets down onto the carpet and rolls around with her.  Steph and I called it, too.  Paisley loves Matthew.  And somehow she "mysteriously" got into our bed at night... hmmm...

Making salsa for our boys to go with the best tortilla chips in the world.

Cooking dinner together!  Mal--always using recipe.  Steph--never using recipe.  We made a good team!

My mama holding sweet Nola.  Her and Paul were incredibly sweet to drive 8 hours into Memphis for the baby shower weekend, and we had a blast all being together crashing at the Robnetts.

My stepfather, Paul, doing what he does best... fixing things!  This man can fix anything.  Apparently we got too many salsa ingredients down the disposal... nothing a plunger and some Paul action can't fix!

So that the works of God...

And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”  Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.  ~John 9:2-3

It was this week one year ago that the Lord healed me from the most physically grueling trial of my life.  My body reacted to what we later discovered was mold in the ceiling and walls of our apartment.  Rather than having a respiratory reaction, it was my skin that showed the effects.  I broke out in rashes that started out as mild but grew to become very bad.  They eventually covered most all portions of my body and itched constantly.  Nothing would relieve the itching other than an ice pack or just staying busy to keep my mind off of it.  Sleeping was difficult, to say the least.  Matthew would find me laying on our bedroom carpet crying out to God to heal me when rashes flared up just by trying to change my clothes.  Depressing feelings began to take over, and all I wanted was to get out of my skin.  I tried a gluten-free diet, washing everything I owned in mild detergent, and lots of topical creams and ointments that made the rash spread even further.

After much prayer and doctor's visits, a trip to an allergist was the cure.  The allergist asked me about mold.  He said he had seen this before with a college student who broke out in mysterious rashes after moving into an old dorm.  He recommended I stay with friends for about a week to test it out.  Our best friends Charlie and Stephanie Robnett opened up their home to us, and within two days, the rashes had all but disappeared.  That week was right before a week mission trip that Matthew and I had planned to take to Serbia.  The Lord's timing is so perfect.

After enduring the rashes for about three months, I realized they were finally healed.  What's amazing is how the Lord let me know.  On Monday morning when driving to work, I was listening to a cd Steph had given me by Kari Jobe.  This song, Healer, came on.  For the first time in three months, my skin was calm and didn't itch at all.  It wasn't until the lyrics that I realized it.  "I believe you're my healer.  I believe you are all I need.  I believe you're my portion.  I believe you're more than enough for me.  Jesus, you're all I need... Nothing is impossible for you."  I broke down, and all I could do was sing and praise the Lord at the top of my lungs.  I just remember crying uncontrollably and saying thank you, thank you, thank you.  I called my mom who was at home, and she broke down too.  I remember stopping by a store on my way home from work and noticing the first blooms of spring.  It was as if the Lord was telling me, "I make all things new."

I wouldn't take back this trial.  The Lord used it to show me so much of His power and love for His children.  We will suffer in this life, because He suffered.  "In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world." ~John 16:33  How would we know His love for us without it?  That's the gospel.  He suffered on our behalf so that our sins would no longer keep us from a Holy God.  He took our sin on his body when he died on the cross, and "...by His wounds, we are healed." ~Isaiah 53:5

It was no coincidence the Lord had me in a John bible study at the time, where He showed me again the verse from John 9:2-3.  Praying that His works would be displayed in my life, both in trials and in triumphs.  If you are enduring something painful at this time, I'd love to pray with you.  I hope that this post will serve as an encouragement that He IS faithful, He IS in control, and He answers prayer. Amen.

Twenty Seven

This week, I turned twenty-seven.  I can't think of a better birthday gift than to realize that in just another couple of months, I get to meet and hold our baby boy.  But as if that wasn't enough, I got to hang out with a girlfriend and her adorable son, spend the day with some more of my Colorado girlfriends talking and eating french food and ice cream, smell fresh roses and tulips, receive lots of phone calls and messages from family and friends living far away, and have a snowed-in pajama night with my husband.  Matthew also had a big presentation due that needed some work that night, so I had a first 'mom' experience helping him set up a display board and mounting his pictures.  What could be better than spending a birthday surrounded by and hearing from people you love?
