The Vagabond Life

We were fortunate to have only had to live the Vagabond lifestyle for about three weeks before our furniture arrived at our new home in Tennessee.  I keep praying for our friends who went off to Belgium and Korea - who probably still don't have their things - imagining them sitting at a laundromat trying to figure out how to ask for the American equivalent of a quarter.  This is just military lifestyle.  It's got it bonuses.  But it's got its downsides.  A perk is that it makes you really appreciate things like having a roof over your head and having a bed to lie on...air mattress or otherwise!  We are grateful for a loving God who uses things like this to show us our materialism and teach us one again to treasure our home in Him.

My mom and stepfather were gracious enough to come stay a week with us before furniture finally arrived.  When the Army says furniture will arrive Monday, what they really mean is FRIDAY :).  But we were prepared for this (not our first rodeo anymore), and expected delays.  We were able to get other things done around the house such as cleaning, installing fans, toilet seats, additional lighting, new hardware, new sink (except new countertop was cut too large for it, so back to old sink until another counter is cut), etc.  It's been fun taking this charming layout of a house and adding a few things to update it from the 1980's to the 2000's.  We are learning a lot about DIY house-reno and enjoying the process.  My mom is great at envisioning while Paul is great at the hands-on technical part of renovation, so they were a huge help to us!

During the week of cleaning/reno, we celebrated mom's birthday and also got to see my cousin, Janet, who drove over from Murfreesboro!  Janet is getting married in November, and I am SO excited for her and that Trevor will be a part of the family!

Temporarily without a sink, so washing dishes in the tub!

Countertops have to be re-cut for new sink.  Paul is re-installing the old one so we don't have to use our bathtub for dishes!

Charlotte's 4th Bday Weekend

Another amazing part of living back in Tennessee is that we are now 5-6 hours away from all of our family in Georgia.  God was so gracious to have Matthew stationed here at Ft Campbell so that we can be more involved in the lives of our family, our nieces, and so that the 'cousins' can know each other!

After a cross-country trek from CO to TN, I thought...why not add to the chaos by driving to Athens, GA???  Makes perfect sense, right?  :)  In all seriousness, though, I would've driven even farther to see my brother and sis (in law... but I call her sis) and nieces and be there for my oldest niece's 4th birthday party.  This was the first bday of my nieces in which I've been able to go.  And my sis, Christine, definitely knows how to throw a party!  Unfortunately, Matthew had to work and wasn't able to go.  So William and I set out on our own.

Charlotte's party had a princess theme.  And guess who got to be Cinderella??  You guessed it!  It was so fun to play dress up with my girls and get to be their 'Cinderella' on Charlotte's special day.  Maybe my two younger nieces actually think I am a real princess now - lol.

I also got to stop in Atlanta on the way back from Athens to see my other fantastic sis (in law) and her new condo along with my mother and father-in-law.  They loved seeing William and getting some snuggles in before we drove back to Clarksville that afternoon.

Not-so-fun memories of the weekend:
--Stop to nurse baby in Altoona, GA.  It's hot.  A/C on full blast.  Baby sweating.  Why are my arms yellow?  Baby's blown out diaper and went up his back.  All over his clothes.  On my arms.  Gross.  It's so hot.  Please eat faster so we can get outta here and so mommy can use the potty!  Have got to go to bathroom...bad.  Starving, too.  Baby stops eating and thinks it's playtime.  It is not playtime.  I have yellow poo on my arms and I am sweating and am about to wet my pants.  After baby's "snack", carry heavy baby into gas station.  Hold heavy baby while trying to use potty and wipe (takes skill).  Baby and mama still covered in yellow poo.  Transport baby to diaper changing station.  Hope no one will notice my pants are undone because that's impossible to do when holding giant baby.  Down to one wipe.  Not good.  Bathe baby in one precious wipe.  Where to put yellow poo onesie?  Change onesies.  Need to wash hands.  And arms.  Hey stranger, can you watch my baby so I use the sink?  Go to gas station Subway line.  It's long.  Why are giant men with civil war beards in Altoona, GA, eating at Subway?!  Soooo hungry.  Baby not patient.  He's hungry.  Only had a snack because he thought it was playtime.  No food for mama.  Back to hot car.  Baby finishes eating.  It's been an hour.  McDonald's drive-thru it is.  Get me outta here.

Fun memories of weekend:
--Catching up with bro and sis late at night when girls are down
--Seeing cousin Jes and him meeting Will for first time
--Nieces meeting Will for first time and treating him like one of their baby dolls
--Seeing both sets of my parents who come up for the bday party
--Playing with my adorable THREE nieces and seeing how Emma, in particular, has grown so much
--Seeing Matthew's parents and sister and them loving on William
--Staying with Christine's sister Lee Anne and getting to catch up with her
--Realizing again how blessed I am by family and having them all so close together

Lily putting in Will's paci

She got the biggest kick out of him and playing "mommy" with her baby cousin

My sis amazes me with her gracious, warm and fun-loving spirit.  Just love her.  I love watching her beautifully embrace the chaos of having a tiny house filled with the laughter and sounds of five people!  Also love how faithfully and lovingly she takes care of my bro.  And how wonderful of a sis she is to me, being interested in my life and chatting with me via text all the time. <3

Mesmerized by his cousins

What's tub time without popsicles?

Precious Emma!

My cousin Jes meets William for first time.  Jes and I spent sooo much of our childhood days together playing outside, shooting hoops, jumping on trampoline, swimming, playing ninja turtles and even dress up! :)

MiMi and PopPop arrive for party.  MiMi loves holding sleepy Will, and he loves it, too.

Nap before the big day

Charlotte loves books more than any 4-year-old I know.  She could read books for hours.

Watching princess clips on the iPad with Charlotte

Christine is an amazing party planner and so creative... from "ring" pops, princess tea party, princess costumes for all the guests, nail-painting and makeup stations at 'bippity boppity boo boutique', etc. etc!

William aka "little bubby" gets snuggles from Grandma and Grandpa in Atlanta

He's lovin it.

Love Aunt Becky's new condo.  Great to see y'all!

Sweet friendship

I can't think of a better way to be welcomed back to Tennessee than your best friends from Memphis saying they'll be there the very same day, and that they'd be bringing with them food, some folding chairs, and an air mattress for a weekend stay!  It's a special pair of people who would come to stay with us in a completely empty house, without hot water (well, we realized that later :)), and with a mouse problem (realized that later, too!...oh and no more mice now!).  We got to see their precious little one-year-old girl, Nola, and they even brought our favorite dog, Paisley!  We are so happy to be closer to them now - a three hour drive from Clarksville to Memphis rather than 18 hours from Colorado Springs.  They are a gift from the Lord of true friendship.  Already, their visit has made our new and unfamiliar house seem much more like home.

Favorite memories of the weekend:
--exploring our new town for the first time altogether
--stopping at the Riverwalk...kids napping in car, then Nola exploring while I nursed William with a/c on full blast, boys catching up and meeting a stranger who wants to know more about the Lord
--boys grabbing food for us from local Indian restaurant and us all eating in our folding chairs in an empty living room
--boys smoking celebratory cigars on the back deck as sun goes down and girls joining them after babies go down
--eating salted watermelon on back deck watching the stars, talking, and warding off mosquitos
--Playing guitar and making up silly songs for babies
--seeing Nola, getting to know her personality and see how grown up she is getting
--staying in pajamas
--warding off mice in the basement
--girls envisioning ideas for house and yard
--going on a walk with Steph and Paisley
--cuddling Paisley...Paisley roaming the hard floor until a soft blanket is put down for her...spoiled rotten! :)

Stranger walks up to boys at Riverwalk as they were discussing the Lord and they all end up in discussion and prayer

Mama and baby at Riverwalk

3 Month Milestones: Expression and Tasty Hands

Our little baby hit another milestone during our transition from CO to TN.  He turned three months old, and he is more expressive than ever.  He also loves to use his hands, primarily to suck on them.  He has been swatting at toys and making the funniest faces in the process.  He has started smiling more than ever, and he loves to shoot us the biggest grin to get you to respond in return.  He squeals and laughs when tickled and will burst into laughter for no apparent reason.  We are loving it!

Will and zebra meet again

...or will I choose the lion this time?

Wait for it...

BAM!

Will you be my friend?

We can make silly faces together.

But don't try to mess with me.

Or I will strike.

Silly lion, we are going to be the best of pals.

Our no-longer-homeless baby celebrates three months

Mmmmm yummy hands. yum yum yum.
