Nesting!

We've got just 27 more days until the due date for our baby boy.  So, there's been just a little nesting going on in the Hillis house :).  Matthew was such a big help in decorating the nursery.  His own model airplanes built from childhood along a twin size antique quilt my mom and I found in Georgia for a guest bedroom were the inspiration for the room.

Matthew and I put the crib together, which was a little trickier than we anticipated!  There was a little bickering, which probably explains why there are no pictures of that event-lol.  Sometimes it's best not to 'hover' when a man is working on a project his own way ;-P.  Fortunately, this new crib is a lot sturdier than the one we put on the curb from a yard sale.  Trying to go cheap can sometimes work in your favor, but sometimes it's wise to bite the bullet and go new... like with the piece of furniture your child will spend the majority of his time in through his first year of life.

Yard sale changing table about to get a makeover

Three coats of ruby red paint later

Matthew stringing up his own model airplanes.  I love that he built and painted these himself when he was younger, and now our son gets to enjoy his mommy AND daddy's artworks.  So cute.

Love Matthew's aesthetic side.

The nursery

Cute checkerboard flannel blanket made by my cousin, Janet.  Toy chest is holding onto so many other special blankets and toys we received for William to use.

My friend, Courtenay, made the adorable William shadowbox from scrapbook papers.  It includes the verse from Isaiah 40:31, "...but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."  So naturally I put this verse next to the chair where I will likely be when I'm feeling weary nursing in the middle of the night.

W Wreath from Stephanie and Matthew's model airplane

Mobile and airplane sheets from my stepmom, Mary Alice

Matthew's baby shoes from his mom, Carla
Burpcloth from Mary Alice to line the reusable washcloth basket
Wanted to hint at the idea of clouds behind the airplane with these applique letters on canvas and placed inside embroidery hoops

Antique initial blocks from my sis-in-law, Christine

More blocks from my sis, Matthew's old dinosaur nightlight and keepsake toothbrush from Carla

Found this dresser at my favorite store in Colorado Springs, The Treasure Shoppe.  New hardware from Hobby Lobby.

  2. The perfect nursery for William Reid--full of unique and special elements made or given by so many friends and family, and a nice blend of Mommy's and Daddy's individual passions and interests, too! Love the colors--the cheery blue polka dot curtains and rosy red changing table--perfect against the soft tan. Love the vintage twist and uniqueness of it all. You did a great job! --XO--Momma
